Winter wellness

🌱Winter wellness is a hot topic at the moment with many people I know coming down with the congestion and feeling under the weather. What has been more unusual this time is that they have had difficulty shaking it.

There are simple things you can do:

💚Resting and staying well hydrated

🍊🍲🥦🫐Staying well nourished with foods that are rich in vitamins A and C, iron and zinc. Vitamin A is highest in eggs, fish and meats. Vitamin C is highest in citrus and fresh, raw fruit and veges. Meats are highest in iron and zinc, that old fashioned chicken soup idea or broth as a base for your meals while you recover. Getting a blood test to check your vitamin D levels (after not taking a supplement for a month).

🥛Taking a break from dairy for a few days while your body resets. Dairy may be mucus forming.

🌱Herbs like for teas like mullein, YEP (equal parts yarrow, elderflower and peppermint tea), thyme, and the age-old elderberry syrup.

🌱Acute consult with me to check on diet and to make up an appropriate herbal blend (tincture).

I sent my lovely friend away with some dried mullein and elderflower to make tea and frozen elderberries to make syrup as she had the sniffles. This is the recipe I use to make elderberry syrup https://wellnessmama.com/remedies/elderberry-syrup/ She uses honey in her recipe but sugar is fine as it acts as a preservative.

I harvested elderberries in early autumn
